The Blueprints to Build Around Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix | MAILBAG
How the Commanders and Broncos can build contenders around their superstar quarterback.
I have returned from Mobile, alive, in one piece, with coffee and fine Scotch coursing through my veins and with visions of the smoked turkey from Meat Boss (if you know, you know) surging through my mind.
As one early milestone of the NFL offseason is officially in the rearview, with the Super Bowl yet to come, the NFL Combine screaming down the tracks like a runaway express train right behind, and free agency looming, let’s go ahead and tackle some of your questions in this week’s Football Friday Mailbag!
What can the Commanders do this offseason to have a better Year 2 with Jayden Daniels? (RajGill89 on Threads)
This season showed us a few things about the Commanders’ future.
Firstly, and obviously most importantly, as several coaches around the league have reiterated to me in recent weeks, Jayden Daniels is “far, far” ahead of schedule.
Having a franchise quarterback in place—who might already be the best quarterback in the NFC—along with the continuity of offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury returning, a receiving corps featuring Terry McLaurin and emerging star Dyami Brown, and the upside still to come in his development, is the most vital building block that Washington or any other team can have.
But, giving up 55 points to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game simply can’t happen.
It. Can. not. happen.
Rebuilding the defense and adding playmakers at all three levels needs to be a priority for Washington, and one that will take significant resources to overhaul.
But, one coach believes there’s an even bigger task for general manager Adam Peters and the front office.
