The NFL Playoff races are heating up, and if what happened on Thanksgiving is any indication, the coaching carousel, which already started spinning earlier this season, may be about to pick up speed.
This week’s questions center around the next head coaching candidates to watch, Bo Nix’s trajectory, and what to make of Packers wunderkind quarterback Jordan Love.
So, let’s get right to it!
Who do you see as the top head coaching candidates next year? Especially looking at guys like Mike Vrabel, who seem to have the itch to get back on the sideline (FikMeeney on Threads)
This question couldn’t possibly be more timely.
Especially after the most confounding and lackadaisical display of clock mismanagement that I’ve seen in my 30 years of watching football, from head coach Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears on Thursday afternoon.
Eberflus would be the first Chicago Bears head coach fired in-season, but if Virginia Halas-McCaskey were ever to break with franchise tradition, yesterday would have been the time to tell Eberflus to find his own way back to the Windy City after his disastrous handling of the game’s final :30.
Here’s the thing, Chicago is likely to be the most attractive of the potential head coaching vacancies this offseason (more so than the New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets, certainly), in large part because of quarterback Caleb Williams’ presence on an offense that’s loaded with premier weapons at the skill positions.
But, who would be the Bears’ top target, and who are some of the top candidates to fill the vacancies to come across the NFL? I posed your question to an NFL agent familiar with the coaching market and he offered up two names, one that isn’t the least bit surprising and another could be a top candidate elswhere.
