The Cowboys Quizzical Dak Prescott Stance Could Prove Costly
As the 2024 NFL season nears, all eyes are on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
Not only are the Cowboys looking to turn the page from yet another disappointing postseason collapse, this time in blowout fashion to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round, but, Prescott is entering the final year of his contract and there is a very real possibility any new deal may be contingent on Dallas making a lengthy playoff run.
Prescott is set to count $55.4 million against the cap this season, which has been a significant hindrance to the Cowboys’ free agency plans this offseason, since he accounts for 21.71 percent of Dallas’ salary cap.
To make matters worse for the Cowboys, who notoriously wait to extend their players’ contracts, the Detroit Lions just committed $53 million, annually, to quarterback Jared Goff on his new contract extension.
Current and former NFL executives and prominent agents tell me the Cowboys are playing a dangerous game of chicken, at this point.
