Saquon’s Surge: Barkley’s Breakout Powers Eagles’ Dramatic Win | 4 Downs
Saquon Barkley’s Explosive Comeback Fuels Eagles’ Win, Sam Darnold Shines in Minnesota, and Giants Find New Star in Malik Nabers
When the Eagles' offense needed a spark, Saquon Barkley lit the fuse, igniting an explosive turnaround in a got-to-have-it 15-12 comeback win over the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints went into halftime leading 3-0 having held Barkley to just 17 yards on five carries, and had to be feeling pretty confident. Especially about the effort from a defense that forced a pair of turnovers while keeping the Eagles’ star running back completely under wraps.
But, with 13:27 remaining in the third quarter, Barkley showed the world how quickly he can alter the trajectory — and ultimately the outcome of a game, when he burst through what may be the widest running lane of his career for a 65-yard sprint to the end zone to get the Eagles on the board.
Later, after the Saints clawed back to a 12-7 lead following a clock-chewing and efficient 4:38 drive capped by a Derek Carr touchdown pass to Chris Olave, it was Barkley who delivered the knockout punch with a violent downhill power run four a four-yard game-winning touchdown and subsequent two-point conversion.
By game’s end, Barkley posted 147 rushing yards and two scores, while averaging an eye-popping 8.7 yards per carry.
This is the version of Barkley many have expected all along, from the moment he was chosen No. 2 overall out of Penn State back in 2018; a difference-making talent capable of leading an offense and altering the impact of a game in a heartbeat whenever he touches the ball.
It’s easy to see why.
“He’s on a better team,” an individual close to Barkley tells me. “He’s running behind a better offensive line that’s led by an elite offensive line coach, has better players around him on that offense, and he has the support now to take advantage of his skills and ability.”
